Angelina Jolie Snubbed by Oscars..Already? Nope, but Another A-Lister Was for e news

There are a few ways Angelina Jolie could get a good seat at next month's Oscars: She could serve as a presenter; she could go as presumed Best Actor nominee Brad Pitt's date; and/or, however unlikely, she could contend for Best Picture.

But, Golden Globes glory or no, she absolutely won't get there via the Foreign Language Film category.

And neither will Christian Bale.

The Academy on Wednesday issued its short list for Best Foreign Language Film. Nine movies, out of an eligible 63, made the cut, including the Globes winner, the Iranian drama A Separation.

Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey, which she directed (and produced and wrote and…), and Bale's The Flowers of War, which he starred in, were MIA.

The Jolie film, despite its Globes nomination, and its Bosian and Serbian dialogue, was never in the game. The Oscars requires that its Foreign Language candidates not only feature foreign languages (i.e., not English), but be produced outside of the United States. And while In the Land of Blood and Honey was shot overseas, as many Hollywood films are, it's a U.S. release.

Avril Lavigne Tweets Her 'Luv' for Brody Jenner E news

The exes, who haven't officially confirmed their split, took to the Twitterverse on Tuesday to declare their adoration for each other. 

"It really upsets me to read all the FALSE!! stories," Jenner, 28, wrote. "Avril has always been there for me and is the closest person to my heart. I love her." 

Lavigne, 27, wrote back, but unlike in the past when they were a couple, she condensed the 'L' word to three letters instead of four. 

"Luv u 2!!! @brodyjenner," she Tweeted. 

The couple, whose romance was first reported in May 2010, could very well get back together, a source told PEOPLE after verifying the breakup. 

Reps have not commented, and Lavigne will be touring Asia next month.

I applaud the dancer for defending himself and for trying to hang on to the woman he loves. J Lo is a mother, in her forties. He was, up until recently, a single guy who reportedly enjoyed clubbing. That being said, I do appreciate the fact that he sounds like a well-spoken and engaging dude in these tweets. For his sake, I hope things work out.

American Idol kicked off its 11th season Wednesday in Southern style. And the year's first audition show, shot in Savannah, Ga., had enough characters to populate a Tennessee Williams play.

There was Amy Brumfield, a 24-year-old from Gatlinburg, Tenn., who lives in a tent. Gabi Carrubba, a 16-year-old tap-dancing champion. NBA dancer Brittany Kerr. Eric Nowak from Buffalo, N.Y., convinced that Steven Tyler is her future ex-husband. Shaun Kraisman, who's convinced he's Ryan Seacrest -- and a good enough mimic to convince just about everybody else. (Fine, let Ryan go to the Today show.) And there's diminutive 17-year-old David Leathers Jr., better known to his friends as Mr. Steal Your Girl, who actually competed in a singing contest with Scotty McCreery two years ago. David hinted that he beat Scotty that night, but I'm not sure I believe him, good as his Michael Jackson-like versions of Remember the Rain and Never Can Say Goodbye were.

Who will people still be talking about once the Hollywood rounds hit? Maybe Shannon Magrane, the 15-year-old daughter of former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane. Maybe Schyler and Colton Dixon, who returned from last season -- though the judges had to drag 19-year-old Colton, who barely missed out on the semifinals last season, back into the mix against his will. But they'll definitely remember Phillip Phillips, a Georgia boy, named after his daddy, who has a country-fried accent and sings Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson like you wouldn't believe.

All in all, 42 contestants from Savannah got golden tickets. And the ones we saw showed a lot of promise.

Aussie Facebook boss to depart for E News

Facebook's Australia & New Zealand chief is set to leave company, according to a statement issued by the social networking site.

Paul Borrud, who was one of Mark Zuckerberg's earliest hirings and was charged with launching the global networking site down under, will leave the company next month to "spend more time with his family and pursue personal interests," the company said.

American-born Mr Borrud started with the company in 2006, first in the United States and then with the establishment of the Australia and New Zealand operations in March 2009.

"Facebook has been an amazing ride, from our early days as a start-up through to moving to Sydney and making Australia home,” Mr Borrud said.

The company is currently recruiting for the position.

Facebook is Australia's top social media website, with 83 per cent of social networkers naming Facebook as their main social networking platform, according to digital analysts Nielsen.

There are more than 10 million active Australian users on Facebook.

‘‘Paul has played a major role in the growth of Facebook’s advertising sales business,’’ the company said.

“We are grateful for Paul’s dedication and the contributions he has made to the company, and we wish him well as he takes some personal time with his family.”

It's looks like America's sweet-heart is going back to the franchise that made her a quasi-star. Emily Maynard will be the star of The Bachelorette, according to reports!

"It's official, Emily is the new Bachelorette," an insider close to Emily tells Life & Style, which is not really official at all, but still. It's been reported previously as well.

Moreover, in order to accommodate "ABC is even going to move filming to Charlotte {North Carolina, Emily's hometown}. It won't be in Los Angeles at all."

It's been reported that ABC asked her to star in the next season of the series, despite her reluctance in early discussions, in large part based on her daughter.

She had fans convinced she wasn't interested. Just last summer Emily Maynard wrote: "I don't want to be The Bachelorette." Perhaps she changed her mind?

Since ending her engagement with that stiff Brad Womack in May, the North Carolina stunner has been linked to Jeremy Shockey and Matt Nordgren.

She's denied dating both ... and has yet to confirm or deny that she's going back on The Bachelorette this time. Stay tuned for an official confirmation. Probably.

This is not a repeat. You are not experiencing déjà vu. It's just the next chapter in the ongoing saga that is the Courtship of Gunner Kiel: For the second time in three weeks, the most sought-after quarterback in the 2012 recruiting class has apparently juked his way out of one verbal commitment and into another.

This time, Kiel is ditching LSU for a last-second defection to Notre Dame, according to the Notre Dame Observer, which confirmed an afternoon of rampant speculation with a university staffer on Monday night. Kiel is expected to enroll in South Bend by the end of the week — possibly as soon as Tuesday, the first day of classes for the spring semester — putting him on pace to join a crowded depth chart in spring practice.

The recruiting rumor mill went into red-siren mode Monday when Kiel was nowhere to be found among LSU's crop of early enrollees, but at this rate, the plot remains subject to change at a moment's notice. University alumnus works Betty White TV show news buzz

From stately oaks and broad magnolias to a hit Web series and hobnobbing with Betty White, actor and University alumnus Nathan Frizzell has come a long way.

The actor recently received word that "Bloomers," a Web series in which he played a main character, will shoot a second season. The series was well received, and one of Frizzell's

colleagues, as well as the directors, was nominated for Indie Soap Awards in December.

Frizzell describes "Bloomers" as a modern version of "Friends" meets "The Office." He compares his character, Ross Buchanan, to Jim Halpert from "The Office," as they are both "all-American doofuses." Frizzell said the show's cast, which includes students from an acting class he takes in Los Angeles, is excited to shoot another season of the show — especially with the prospect of a higher budget.

Beyond "Bloomers," Frizzell has appeared in episodes of "Veronica Mars" and "CSI: New York." He recently finished

taping a guest spot on TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland," in which he got to perform with famed actress Betty White.

"She's everything you expect Betty White to be," Frizzell said. "The woman's 90 years old with a razor-sharp wit."

Frizzell also takes pride in appearing in a currently running Coors Light commercial.

"It ran during a Saints game this year, and I had friends and family calling me to verify that they'd seen me in the commercial," Frizzell said.

The acting bug bit Frizzell early ­— he started doing community theater at age 7. But he did not consider acting as a serious career path until attending LSU.

"I was originally a political science major as a freshman," Frizzell said.

The 29-year-old said his perspective on acting was altered when he was cast in a lead role in a play at the University during his freshman year. The director of the play, John Dennis, pulled Frizzell into his office shortly after the casting process to question him on his major.

Frizzell told Dennis he enjoyed theater but was majoring in political science to have "something safe to fall back on."

"[Dennis] told me college was a great building experience for acting and that I should use the time to get all of the training I could get," Frizzell said.

Frizzell credits the University with helping him transition from a performer with good instincts into a trained actor.

"School turned my acting into something real through training," Frizzell said. "it's  helped me focus on what I wanted as an actor and how to approach acting as a business."

Arfa Karim, 16 years old, child prodigy, inspiration, youngest certified Microsoft Professional in the world and winner of the president’s Pride of Performance, breathed her last on Saturday night at the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore.

The teenage genius suffered an attack on that which had given her recognition and made her a source of inspiration for young and old across the country – her brain. Arfa had an epileptic attack on December 22 and had been in a coma since, while well-wishers prayed and watched her progress closely.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Major Ahsan Randhawa, Arfa’s uncle, articulated the family’s grief as best as he could. “We are grieving her loss but she was a strong child”, he said – adding “she was God’s gift to us and now she has returned to Him”.

Arfa is to be buried in her ancestral village, close to Faisalabad. She had always identified herself with her roots, and had said proudly once that although she came from a ‘low-profile’ family, she wanted to study all over the world and then come back to help the people in her village.

The child prodigy, who was on life support at the Intensive Care Unit while the nation watched with bated breath, suffered a complication on Saturday evening when she was shifted to the emergency room. Major Ahsan Randhawa said that a tracheotomy tube (tracheal tube entered into the trachea through a minor incision), which had been recently inserted to facilitate her breathing, resulted in bleeding in the throat. Previously the tracheal tube had been inserted via her mouth. She was immediately shifted to the operating theatre where Arfa lost her battle for life.

Major Ahsan Randhawa added that Arfa had been doing fine prior to the complication. ”She had no complication prior to the bleeding,” he said adding “everything just happened so suddenly”. Arfa was declared dead soon after.

“She wasn’t being operated for surgery, she had been shifted to emergency because of the bleeding,” he said.

Arfa’s funeral prayers will be offered at the Ayub stadium in Cantonment at 10 am on Sunday. Later, her body will be shifted to Faisalabad where another funeral prayer will be offered at D Ground in People’s Colony in Faisalabad at 2 pm.

Salman Khan may have been excused for believing his trip to Dubai for the Celebrity Cricket League would be a nice oasis of peace, and given his super-busy schedule of late, he was really looking forward to it.

But given the way the weekend transpired, it was anything but that. The back-to-back schedules and the non-stop travelling seem to have taken a toll on Salman.

“At an event in Dubai, Salman looked completely washed out. But what really got to him was the non-availability of flights back to Mumbai,” says an eyewitness. Sallu was supposed to fly back to Mumbai before the others, as he had some prior commitments.

“But there were no business class seats available, which further put him in a quandary. His team finally convinced him to fly economy along with his battery of bodyguards and staff.”

And though the star was visibly disappointed with the arrangement, he did keep a tight lid on his temper and maintained his composure.

So, finally Sallu flew back, without tantrums, without any high-handed behaviour, and most importantly, in economy class without any special treatment.

After regaling & entertaining moviegoers with 'Garam Masala' six years ago, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham reunite in 'Desi Boyz'. Helmed by first-timer Rohit Dhawan, son of the badshah of entertainers David Dhawan, this one goes a step further. Serious issues such as recession, unemployment and economic crisis have been integrated into the plotline, which compels the boyz, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, to choose an alternate job — join a male escort agency run by Sanjay Dutt.

Male strippers, gigolos and male escorts aren’t new for Bollywood. A few years ago, Deepak Tijori made a full-fledged film on youngsters taking to the profession with 'OOPS!;. Of course, 'Desi Boyz' is not entirely on male strippers or escorts; there’s more to the film actually.

'Desi Boyz' has a bit of 'The Full Monty' and a bit of ‘Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo’. First things first! Is the moviegoer of today ready for a film that depicts the protagonists taking to this undesirable profession to make ends meet? Well, these things are common place in reality, so approval shouldn’t be an issue. The tastes have evolved and Rohit Dhawan ensures that the subject matter is treated prudently, paying enough heed to not impairing the sensibilities of the conventional viewers.

Come to think of it, ‘Desi Boyz’ is a lot of fun as the male protagonists take to pleasing their female clientele. The first hour, frankly, is akin to a roller coaster ride with lots of fascinating developments unfolding at a feverish pace. The best part is that a tinge of realism [economic crisis] has been injected to the plot, which makes the motives appear convincing on screen. In fact, it’s pretty evident that this is not a no-brainer rom-com. But it’s the second half that does a complete somersault.

Let us explain. Watching the second hour of 'Desi Boyz' is akin to watching an entirely different film. The problem clearly lies in the fact that the screenplay doesn’t hold and it tries to balance drama and fun, but with not much success. Akshay’s story in the University isn’t plausible, while John attempting to woo back Deepika lacks muscle. The courtroom sequence, with Akshay fighting to seek custody of his adorable nephew, is bizarre, while the finale is not compelling at all. In short, the second hour is a complete downer, diluting the impact generated by the first hour.

'Desi Boyz' is unlike the atypical Akshay starrers that we have witnessed in the recent past. But Rohit Dhawan, who is also credited for the written material, ought to have ensured that the post-interval portions are equally riveting and absorbing. However, a few moments in the second half are well executed, but it’s not like the first half. Zo was born in 1980 into a showbiz family. Her father, Caleb Deschanel  an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer & her mother, Mary Jo Deschanel  is an actress who starred in "Twin Peaks" . Driven from an early age to become a successful actress, Zooey got her big break aged 17 playing a model in TV sitcom "Veronica's Closet" .
